About the book:
It was an era of Conservative politics, the collapse of the Berlin Wall and the rise of MTV.
But in Chesterfield we did things a little differently. Our politics veered between Tony Benn and the Monster Raving Loony Party and any collapsing was generally three-quarters of the way down the Brampton Mile.
It was a decade of glitz, fun pubs and nightclubs by night; and YTS, UB40s and signing on by day.
Nights out started at 7pm sharp (even earlier for the aforementioned Brampton Mile) and disco lights switched off at 2am - period.
Vinyl was king and the town centre, as far as many of us were concerned, started at Hudsons and ended at Connection.
Youth tribes came in the shape of punks, rockers, skinheads, goths, mods, rude boys (and girls), indie kids, futurists, trendies and more.
Selfies came courtesy of Woolworths photobooth and tech was a college rather than the cornerstone of modern life.
The ‘Dirty Stop Out’s Guide to 1980s Chesterfield... In Pictures’ celebrates this party-charged era like never before with contributions from a cast of thousands.
