'Then and now' sisters light up Facebook as they re-enact their trip to Woolies photo-booth

Danesmoor sisters Marie Brierley and Kay Booker were first in the queue when we were looking for people to re-enact the photos that appear on the cover of our new ‘Dirty Stop Out’s Guide to 1980s Chesterfield – In Pictures’.

The sisters happily settled back into the pose they first struck in Woolies photo-booth in the town over three decades earlier with one exception – modern life dictated the cigarette had to be replaced by an e-cig…

The ‘then and now’ shot has become a massive Facebook hit with over 30,000 viewing it within hours of it being uploaded.

Author Neil Anderson is launching the new book that’s purely made up of photos of revellers and more from the era – it’s the follow-up to our 2013 local best seller, the ‘Dirty Stop Out’s Guide to 1980s Chesterfield’.

He asked fans of the town in the era to raid their photo albums and send him their pictures to be considered for inclusion.

Neil Anderson said: “The response has been incredible. Hundreds of photos were sent in. There was such an amazing variety of places to go out in Chesterfield in the ‘80s and the book truly reflects this. There were so many local bands and vibrant club nights – the project has brought back some fantastic memories for me.”
