The Corpse - full colour fanzine

Fanzines were the lifeblood of punk in the late ‘70s and ‘80s. They were the preferred cut’n’paste communication alternative to  capitalist journalism.

Now Steve ‘Noz’ Norris, former drummer/guitarist of seminal Chesterfield punk band the Corpse, has dusted down his Letraset, sharpened his scissors and re-launched the ‘zine-style DIY ethos whilst doing his utmost to shun the trappings of the digital age.

He has spent weeks pulling together a definitive history of a band he openly admits “were the worst band you’ve never heard of”.

The Corpse followed the punk mantra to the letter – no musical talent, no intention of getting any musical talent but a heap of DIY artwork, hordes of photos and tales of audience members setting their rear ends on fire (the scars made it to the digital age apparently).

So here it is – in full colour no less - a glimpse into the largely unseen corner of the early eighties punk world in the northern town of Chesterfield without a Word Doc or Jpeg file in sight.

Think 28 pages of graveyard photoshoots, full gig history (there weren't that many but it obviously includes the Tuesday punk night at the White Swan) and throwing snowballs at the police in Darley Dale.

If you knew the scene you’ll know the names as members of the likes of Society’s Victims, Criminal Sex, Chaos Bros and No Deadmeat all passed through the ranks of the Corpse.
